A valuable lesson on seeds from Iva, Dari and Vyara (The Land Beyond the Rainbow):

In short: soak the small seeds for 4 hours, soak the bigger ones overnight. Drain, rinse and put in a dark moist place (I used to put them on a plate and turn another plate over it as a lid, then gauze-covered jars, and now I’m using these trays). Rinse them again every ten or twelve hours. Most will be ready in two days; the alfa-alfa sprouts will be perfect in a week.
