Attention! ERUPTING VOLCANO!

It was big fun; we even repeated the experiment after cleaning up the ‘lava’ that had spilled everywhere.

To make this volcano, you will need a container half-full of vinegar, 1-2 tbsp dishwashing liquid and a few drops of food coloring. Mix well.

Start by making the volcano shape. You can use our method but you could also cut a cardboard cone which you then glue around the volcano and color.

Use several doses of store-bought or homemade plasticine (or clay) to cover a tall metal container or a wide-necked bottle. Decorate with different kinds of spaghetti, lentils, pasta and small toys.

When everything is ready, put several spoonfuls of baking soda in a paper napkin, wrap it like candy and put it in the vinegar mixture inside the container. After adding the soda, stir well to accelerate the ‘eruption’ process. At first the liquid starts rising… and then the volcano erupts. Just to be on the safe side, put the whole installation on a baking sheet.

After the first eruption my daughter took the baking soda and started pouring it again and again… and the volcano kept erupting…
